The Herpetofauna Albanian Society (HAS) is an association which works on the protection and monitoring of the environment and different endangered species (amphibians and reptiles) in Albania. It has about 70 members and is composed entirely of volunteers. It is a National private NGO Environmental and Educative Society based in Tirana, Albania and was established in 2001. HAS’s budget is based solely on income from projects. In HAS there are Professors, Doctors and specialists in Biological Science, Biologists, Biology Teachers and Students, who have also participated in many meetings, Symposiums (2000 Orlando-USA, 2006 Crete-Greece, 2007 Myrtle Beach-South Carolina), Congresses (2005 Antalia-Turkey) and Conferences, and seminars organized within Albania and abroad. Prof. Dr. Idriz Haxhiu is the Director of HAS and has 45 years experience in the study of amphibians and reptiles.
